– As I understand it, the shots came from outside, while the victim stayed inside the premises, says the police’s incident leader at the scene, Monica Engebretsen, to NTB.
She states that it is a kebab restaurant in Greenland in the center of Oslo. The police received a report about the incident shortly after 03:00.
The police moved to places after receiving several reports of shooting on the night of Sunday.
General manager of Beirut Kebab in Smalgangen, Ali Issam Kanaan, confirms to VG that this is where the incident happened.
They stay open until 4 a.m., and he himself was at work when the shooting happened, he says.
Hunting perpetrators
– We have received reports that a person has been shot, and we have found a person who is injured, said operations manager Line Kapskarmo in the Oslo police district to VG at 03.20.
The person was conscious when the police arrived at the scene, but is described as seriously injured. The person has been taken to hospital in an ambulance.
The police have no control over the perpetrator, and so far no one has been arrested.
According to the police, there must have been several people present when shots were fired.
– We are working to obtain both technical and tactical clues at the scene, to try to find out exactly what has happened and the reason for it, says operations manager Kapskarmo to VG.
Found in kebab restaurant
The police’s incident leader at the scene, Monica Engebretsen, says that there were several witnesses to the incident in the kebab restaurant.
– There were several people present inside the room, who also worked there. There were also quite a few people in the area who called us, she tells NTB.
Beirut Kebab, where the person was found shot, has been located on Grønland Torg for many years.
– We have experienced a lot of noise, but never anything like this, says general manager Ali Issam Kanaan to VG.
He says that he has not been able to check the damage to the premises, but that there are two holes in one of the windows.
– I have no comment beyond what the police have stated. Fortunately, no employees have been affected, he says.
– Do you know if you have to be closed tomorrow?
– We are waiting for the police to complete their work, then we should be able to operate as usual.
I don’t think the shooting was random
The police specify that there is no reason to believe that there is a danger to residents in the area.
– As we have understood it, it is most likely a relationship between the parties. I do not want to go into more detail about it, but I consider that it is not unsafe for other residents in the area, says the task leader.
This week, the police came up with a new plan to fight open and organized crime Greenland in Oslo.
Next week, on 1 May, the Oslo police district will launch the new neighborhood police section, which will consist of up to 38 police officers. Their mission is to crack down on open drug sales, violence and threats in Greenland and Tøyen – when it happens.
