Lillehammer, Exploration | New night without luck: Large search teams continue the search for Eivind (22)

--

– We have not found anything, but we have had crews out all night, says operations manager Sidsel Svarstad to GD on Thursday morning.

The search operation sees its fourth morning without having found the missing Eivind Sporaland, who was reported missing on Sunday. The police have primarily concentrated their search in the area around Balbergskaret in Lillehammer, but in the last couple of days search crews have been seen searching large parts of the city centre.

On Wednesday, around 50 people were out searching for the man.

Regular meetings

Svarstad says that the search will continue on Thursday with the same strength, and that the search will continue from Balbergskaret, where the missing person’s car was parked around 11 o’clock on Sunday.

– We have made a plan for the day today, but have assessment meetings at regular intervals. Parallel to the search, there is a track on the investigation, so we hold regular meetings to take the status further, and which hypotheses we are working on, says Svarstad.

– How long do you search without finding?

– There are several things that determine that, including what comes up in the investigation track. As long as we have something to go by and the hope is that we can find him alive, we will search, replies the operations manager.

Doctor evaluates

A doctor from the local rescue centers is connected to the action, and gives an expert opinion on how long it may be possible to survive outdoors without food and drink and thin clothing in the current weather and temperatures.

– At the same time, it is possible to get inside to find food, shelter and warmth, says Svarstad.

She still encourages people to come forward with tips about sightings and other possible tips that can help the search teams in the operation.

– Have you received any tips that the man may be elsewhere?

– It’s hard to say, we can be somewhat uncertain about clothing and footwear, but we get a number of tips that we check out, and some tips that we don’t consider relevant to check. We are very happy about the tips we get and any observations, says Svarstad.

Asks for a check of houses and cabins

Task leader Magnus Danielsen asked on behalf of the police on Wednesday that people check houses, cabins, farms or other buildings they own. Especially in the relevant search areas.

– We primarily search along paths and steps out in the terrain, and follow tracks in the snow that may come from the steps. So far, we have not found traces that we are one hundred percent sure are from the missing person, Danielsen told GD on Wednesday.

The search in the terrain takes place according to the search methodology and experience that the Red Cross and the police use in search operations. The Norwegian Civil Defense, Norwegian Rescue Dogs and Norwegian People’s Aid are also participating in the campaign.

– In addition, we have volunteers who have signed up for the search, and they are part of the search teams of the Civil Defence, says Operations Leader Danielsen.
