With three centre-backs among those potentially leaving Old Trafford, United want to bring in two new faces who can fill the stopper position next season.

Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite and Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba are among the names on the list of possible signings in the summer window. Samuel Luckhurst writes in the Manchester Evening News.

Furthermore, the United journalist writes that three centre-backs could be on their way out of the Old Trafford doors this summer. He mentions Raphaël Varane and Jonny Evans who are both out of contract. In addition, Swedish Victor Lindelöf’s contract expires in the summer of 2025.

ON THE WAY OUT?: Jonny Evans & Raphaël Varane could both be on their way out the doors at Old Trafford.

Branthwaite, who plays daily at Everton, is on the radar of several clubs after solid performances for the Merseyside side this season. The 21-year-old has 32 Premier League games this season and three goals. He was also recently called up to the England national team squad for the first time.

Tapsoba has this season played in a three-back line for Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen. Here, the 25-year-old has played 25 games in the Bundesliga for the team, which at the time of writing is unbeaten this season.

UNITED-CURRENT: Edmond Tapsoba is one of several stoppers to be on United’s wish list.

United have conceded 51 goals in the Premier League this season and used 28 different back fours in their 47 games this season.

Then it remains to be seen whether United will let the ink splash on the checkbook to secure the two right-handed centre-backs.
