In its fortieth year, Dance With A Stranger embarks on a tour. It starts in Østlandet – in Tønsberg on Wednesday evening. From there it goes on and on until September, with a highlight in Kristiansund on 28 June: the Tahiti Festival.

Most are already sold out.

– This year it has completely taken off. It hasn’t been this much since Dance With A Stranger broke through and was at its peak 30-40 years ago. It’s fun, says guitarist Frode Alnæs in an interview with Tidens Krav.

The group recently released a new song, the first in 17 years – and have another song on the publishing list before the summer.

– It’s very strange, says Alnæs about being a pop star for 40 years.

He feels sadness and pride before this summer’s tour, he says in a podcast interview with local newspaper Tønsbergs Blad.

Started in Bergen

Alnæs remembers well the start in 1984, he confesses in the podcast; the year was characterized by figures as diverse as Limahl and Kåre Willoch. Incidentally, Alnæs has shared the stage with both.

The group made their record debut three years later. It is still an open question whether this year’s new songs foreshadow the group’s seventh studio album.

This year’s concert list sends Dance With A Stranger to all corners of the country, from Mandal to Bødo as well as Romsdal and Sunnmøre – before it ends in Bergen in the autumn – where the band with Kristiansund-sized Øyvind “Elg” Elgenes at the front was formed.
