Trude Drevland, former Conservative politician and mayor of Bergen, has long been a familiar face on Norwegian TV. She has participated in programs such as “Camp Culinaris” and “Shall we dance”, where she has become a favorite among the public. Drevland is known for its energy and has always been popular with viewers.
Almost a year ago, however, she received shocking news from the doctors at Haukeland Hospital – she had developed bladder cancer.
– I am not ready to die, Drevland told Se og Hør last year, clearly affected by the news of the disease.
She underwent surgery in June and started treatment shortly after. Three months later, in October, she updated on her condition.
– It is heavy. I’m excited, and I’d rather not have many days like that, said Drevland to Se og Hør, after having lived with both excitement and a sense of fear.
Shine on the gold route
Despite the illness, Drevland appeared on the red carpet during the Gullruten in Bergen, where she showed her best side and posed for the photographers.
– I feel fantastic, she told Nettavisen during the event, and shared that she was still undergoing treatment, but that her body responded well.
Drevland has not let the disease rob her of her joy in life. She regularly updates her followers on Instagram about the treatment process and the importance of openness.
– I am concerned with living well as long as I live, she states above the newspaper.
Two days before she appeared on Gullruten, she was in the hospital, TV 2 reported.
– It’s about what messages you get. Then it’s about them delaying the proper message. Then you just have to wait again. I’m fine, me. Driving on! I can live, the others can treat, and then we do it separately, said Drevland.
Even in the face of the disease, the former mayor chooses to see the light in life, knowing that every moment is precious.
– It is a bit characterized by waiting, not knowing, and something like that. But I’m going to die with what I have, not die of it, so I can’t complain. There are many people who have it much, much worse, she concluded.
