Gullruten went off the air on Saturday evening, and new for the year was that Helene Olafsen (34) had taken over the role of presenter.

For the past two years, Niklas Baarli (35) has had the honor of leading the award ceremony. When Nettavisen meets him in connection with the launch of the new streaming service “Max”, he can announce that it was nice that he was not on stage at the weekend.

– I think it was fun to watch. It is very nice to be allowed to lead the Gullruten, but Helene is a rawhide, so it was nice to be able to just sit back and enjoy it, says Baarli to Nettavisen.

Divided opinions

Following the award ceremony, several people have reacted on social media to how Olafsen led the programme.

Because instead of talking his way through the script and leading the award ceremony in the usual way, the presenter danced and sang his way through the big event.

Among others, Nettavisen’s entertainment commentator Maria Ludvigsen wrote a critical comment in her column at Nettavisen.

“Gullruten opens with Helene Olafsen and two dancers, in what appear to be “Austin Powers” outfits. There is dancing in small (but after all good and well-executed) movements, while Helene Olafsen rattles off things that have to do with the world of entertainment. It mostly feels like they are walking around the stage and occasionally just tilting their heads a little,” wrote Ludvigsen.

Taking Olafsen in defense

The married couple do not understand the reactions and negative comments Olafsen has received, and announce that they liked the feature.

– I think the dance was quite delicious and corny. I didn’t quite understand the thing, and I kind of like that when it’s a bit strange and different, so she gets five stars for it, says Benjamin Silseth (33) to Nettavisen.

– I have danced in an opening at Gullruten myself, and know how demanding it is. She danced much better than me, so I think it was a roll of the dice, adds Baarli.

When asked if the married couple could dance the same dance if they led the Gullruten, they disagreed.

– Not exactly that dance, says Baarli while her husband replies:

– I think that dance might suit me a bit. I’m bad at dancing, but it was very simple movements and a bit of a corny melody.
