The EU ambassadors want France, Belgium and Spain not to be able to resell Russian liquefied gas, so-called LNG. Nor do they want EU countries to be able to finance Russian energy projects. Norway is a major supplier of LNG to Europe and will be able to profit from the restrictions.

The commission also proposes a ban on EU countries getting involved in upcoming LNG projects in Russia.

But Russia has begun cooperation with China, which is building the modules for a large LNG plant east of Murmansk.

Rather than harming Russia, Europe may be harming itself. Russia’s enormous resources will be developed anyway.

The EU has realized that Russia is waging a cyber war against Europe and links this to right-wing parties. But a lot is loose talk and claims.

The ambassadors will also discuss a proposal to place restrictions on political parties in the EU, as well as media and voluntary organizations when it comes to receiving money from the Russian authorities and their partners. (NTB)
