Queen Mary with a shock patch on her eye

--

Queen Mary (52) and King Frederik (55) are making their very first state visit this week, to neighboring Sweden.

When the royal couple disembarked from the royal ship “Dannebrog” in Stockholm on Monday, Queen Mary had a red spot on her left eye. The red spot was easy to see, as it was in the white field of Mary’s left eye.

– Withstands the test of time

Photographers and journalists have come from all over Europe to cover Queen Mary’s very first state visit, and the cameras have captured a number of beautiful images of both outfits and details.

Several bidding agencies have noticed Mary’s red spot in her eye, and the spot has caused a lot of attention in Mary’s home country of Denmark.

Dansk Se og Hør has been in contact with the royal house’s communications department to ask why Queen Mary has the red spot in her eye:

The royal house will neither comment nor elaborate on the stain, as it is a private matter, writes Se og Hør in Denmark.

Surprised: Appeared

The magazine has also been in contact with knowledgeable health personnel, who can reassure the Danes. Ophthalmologist Maria Voss Kyhn at Rigshospitalet tells the magazine that the spot corresponds to a “bruise”:

– The small blood vessels we have in the mucous membrane of the eye can burst spontaneously. It is completely harmless, and will disappear by itself, says Kyhn to Se og Hør.

– Disfiguring eye

Caroline Vagle, royal house expert in Se og Hør, thought the queen should have been proud of carrying out the presidential visit.

– I think the queen is cool who carries it out despite a rather unsightly eye. She knows that it will become a topic of conversation, and that the pictures will be spread around the world, said Vagle.
