If you need a tip about a good and cheap wine. Yes, then you might get it, but often wines are suggested that are not found in our nearest Pole. Maybe you have to order the wine online and have it sent to your nearest store? It’s nice that we can do that, but now I’ve checked the status at our nearby wine stores in Romerike. And here are some good wine suggestions for you.

Treasure hunt

Finding a good wine can be an exciting treasure hunt. I try to avoid buying the same wine twice, because there is so much good to get hold of. If I find a wine from a slightly hidden place, and it has its own characteristics, then that is a big plus for me. Let’s take a little journey to such a place. Let’s travel to a small village called Pupillin. A French town in the Jura wine region.

Local grapes

Jura is, as many know, a region with many exciting wines. Some of the wines still require an open mind and a bit of curiosity. I am thinking, for example, of the white wine Vin Jeaune from the savagnin grape. The wine is similar to sherry, and is aged in barrels under a layer of yeast for many years. Otherwise, we get many exciting white wines from the chardonnay area.

The wines from here that most often get a wow from me are the red wines. For the curious, I can tell you that these are three blue grapes from which they make red wine. And apart from the well-known trotter pinot noir, we have the indigenous grapes trousseau and poulsard. Wines that are often used for something as exotic as wild boar, which they catch in this area. But they also go well with light meat, beef, pizza and pasta.

Good and light red wines

The village of Pupillin has only around 250 inhabitants. Here, over 1,000 years ago, the monks began to grow wine, and they researched soils and wine production. From this place, it is the poulsard grape from which they make the red wines, and it is almost only here that the grape can shape itself into the good and light red wines.

Do you like light and juicy red wines made from grapes such as pinot noir and gamay? Then poulsard should be on the shopping list. The color of the wines is light pink to brown, and they have a delicious scent of forest floor and wet soil with fruity notes from, among other things, currants and strawberries. These are wines I often return to.

The green wines

As summer approaches, maybe there will also be a little greener food on the plate? Many people prefer salads, and wonder if it goes well with wine. And it certainly does! We can find wine for most things. But certainly also for salads. If you need a wine suggestion here, I would choose wines that have a green touch.

Then I think of wines that have the aroma of green herbs. A good suggestion is those on the sauvignon blanc grape. It often has hints of gooseberry and nettle, which combine nicely with salads from various sales. And a nice wine for vegetarian food. In this genre, we must also not forget the grüner veltliner grape from Austria, which can have nice green notes that are combined with citrus, minerality and some spice. A little outsider at the end: rosé wines can work very well with your salad. And as you know, we should get more of salads.
