“Vampire facial” is a procedure where you take blood from your own arm and then re-inject it into the face, according to the American Academy of Dermatology Association.

The procedure has received a lot of attention in recent years, and is offered by several cosmetic treatment centers to give customers a younger appearance.

Influences and TV personality Kim Kardashian is among those who have been open about having tried the treatment.

Now a report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that three women were most likely infected with HIV through the treatment.

All three are said to have been infected at the same spa in the state of New Mexico in the United States. The spa did not have a license to carry out such cosmetic treatments, writes CBS News.

In 2018, the health authorities in New Mexico started an investigation against the spa after a woman had tested positive for HIV after a so-called vampire treatment.

According to the report, unmarked tubes of blood were found on a kitchen counter and in a refrigerator with food.

The owner of the spa pleaded guilty to operating the spa without a license, and was sentenced in 2022 to 3 and a half years in prison, according to CBS.
