Four police officers have been shot and killed after a shooting incident in North Carolina in the USA. Several are injured.

It was Monday afternoon local time that the police went to an address in the city of Charlotte in North Carolina.

According to the AP news agency, the incident took place when the police were in the process of executing an arrest warrant on a person wanted for illegal possession of weapons.

When they arrived at the scene, the man opened fire.

– Several shots were fired, and as many as eight police officers were shot during the action. The situation unfolded over a period of three hours, says Jennings in the press release.

He also says that four police officers died during the mission:

– Today we lost heroes who were committed to keeping our society safe. When we put on the uniform, we have no guarantee that we will get home, he says in the statement.

Worst attack

According to the police, the man who fired the shots has been confirmed dead.

At the same time, two people, a woman and a 17-year-old boy, were inside the house. These are now being questioned.

Police chief Jennings also says in the statement that the police killing is the “worst attack on police he has seen during his 30-year career”.

– Our hearts are with the families and co-workers of the officers in the brutal attack, he writes on X.

Vi Lyles, mayor of the city of Charlotte, also offers his condolences after the murders.
