Since the Second World War, the Russians have celebrated the victory over Hitler’s Germany on May 9 every year.
“Victory Day” is marked with a large-scale military parade on Red Square in Moscow.
Preparations for this year’s parade are already well under way, writes Swiss Blick.
Flag watch
Among other things, the Russian Ministry of Defense is displaying a collection of foreign military vehicles, which Russia has seized during the war in Ukraine, to set the right mood.
Every vehicle in the Russian collection has been given a flag to demonstrate the great Western conspiracy against Russia, writes the Swiss newspaper – and at the same time points out that the vehicles’ country of origin is probably not taken particularly seriously.
Because among the military vehicles is the decommissioned Swiss medical vehicle Prinzgauer, which anyone who has served in the Swiss army between 1972 and 2008 will probably be familiar with.
But there is something strange.
The vehicle is not adorned with a Swiss, but an Austrian flag.
– How?
– How can it be? asks Blick.
There is no clear answer to this.
A possible explanation for the flag buzzing could nevertheless be that the vehicle’s original model was designed in its time by the Austrian vehicle manufacturer Steyr-Puch.
