– It wasn’t how I wanted to end my career, but that’s how it turned out. I hate the way the talk show ended and hate that the last time people saw me was that way.

That’s what DeGeneres said in a question round after Wednesday’s premiere of “Ellen’s Last Stand … Up Tour” in Hollywood, reports Rolling Stones. The host and stand-up comedian himself brought “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” on stage. In front of a packed hall, she said:

– Oh, by the way, I was kicked out of show business.

The Emmy-winning talk show with celebrity guests ended in May 2022 after almost 20 years on the air. The termination followed the website Buzzfeed running a series of articles about alleged racism and sexual harassment as well as microaggressions on set.

Employees must also have been dissatisfied with how they were compensated during the corona era, writes Variety. Ellen DeGeneres apologized on camera, while three producers were fired following WarnerMedia’s own internal investigation.

“Ellen’s Last Stand … Up Tour” is the first time that the previously so popular presenter moves out into the public eye.

– For those of you following along, this is the second time I’ve been kicked out of show business. In the end, they’ll probably kick me out a third time because I’m mean, old and queer, DeGeneres said on stage on Wednesday – referring to the fact that the comedy series “Ellen” was canceled when she came out as a lesbian in the 90s.

– It has been a strain on both my ego and my sense of self. There are extreme contrasts in this industry, people either love and idolize you or they hate you, and the latter are the loudest. I couldn’t get myself to understand that this wasn’t personal, she said after the premiere.
