Sweden – Attack on anti-fascist marking

--

Several masked people allegedly threw smoke bombs at an anti-fascist demonstration in the south of Stockholm on Wednesday evening.

The Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet states that several police forces and ambulances have been deployed.

The police are tight-lipped about the incident.

– I can confirm that we are in Gubbängen on an incident and that there are several patrols on the scene. But I can’t say more than that, says spokesperson Nadya Norton from the police to the newspaper.

Two people must have been taken to hospital, according to Aftonbladet.

– Attack on democracy

Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson was quick to comment on the incident.

– An attack on a political meeting is an attack on our entire democracy, he says in a statement to the news agency TT.

Margareta Olofsson, board member of Venstre in Enskede, was one of the people behind the marking at the Moment theatre.

To the newspaper, she estimates that there were around 100 people in the room when five young people suddenly ran in and threw something into the room.

– It was a terrible smoke. It was difficult to breathe, says Olofsson to Aftonbladet.

Masked Nazis

According to the Expo foundation, masked Nazis must have entered the room just before the start of a lecture.

“The Nazis attacked, both with physical violence against visitors and with defense spray, and they vandalized the premises, before throwing a form of smoke grenade that filled the foyer with smoke,” writes the foundation.

Photos that Aftonbladet has received from people at the site show that color bombs have also been thrown, in addition to smoke bombs at the site.
