Drank 25 glasses

--

Running a marathon is demanding enough in itself. But what happens if you mix running with alcohol – specifically wine? And in addition, shelves down on large amounts of it?

That’s what Tom Gilbey experienced during the London marathon this weekend.

Some may have heard of the “beer mile”, but the concept of the “wine mile” may not be as widespread.

Wild scenes

The TikTok profile Gilbey wanted to try to drink one glass of wine for every mile (1.6 kilometers) he ran – a drinking pace that would eventually result in 25 glasses of wine.

In a video clip on TikTok, he started the marathon with a glass of Pinot Noir, before it all came crashing down.

Naturally enough, you could see an impressed Gilbey beyond the race, who also had to guess what wine he was drinking.

Despite the challenge, the Brit – who is known for his wine knowledge – managed to complete both the race and the challenge, we are to believe the video.

He ran to the finish line in a time of 4.41.12.

Gilbey’s video has really taken off. The stunt has been viewed over 3.2 million times, and has been covered by a number of media outlets.

The drunken stunt – or perhaps what developed into a drunken party – had a somewhat lighter ulterior motive. Gilbey wanted to raise money for a local hospital in Oxford. According to The Guardian, the Brit managed to collect over 13,000 pounds (176,000 Norwegian kroner).

– 26.2 miles, 25 wine tastings. Seven completely correct, four wrong and 14 more or less correct. Over £10,000 raised for Sobell House. A big thank you, writes Gilbey after the race.
