Disney and Florida have settled a dispute that began when Disney objected to a ban on teaching about sexuality and orientation in schools.

The entertainment group sued after Florida’s elected officials withdrew a special arrangement that gave Disney control over the development of a large tract of land that houses Disney World and associated theme parks.
The change was seen as retaliation from Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis after Disney criticized a 2022 law — colloquially known as “Don’t say gay” — that banned teaching about sexuality and orientation in Florida’s elementary schools.
On Wednesday, the Disney group says it has entered into a settlement with the tourism authorities, who took over planning responsibility for the land area the company previously controlled. The original agreement dated back to the 1960s.
The settlement paves the way for a future agreement with the authorities on how the parties will handle and regulate the area, says Disney, which is one of the largest employers in the state.
