– Suddenly encountered a broken road

There has been a severe landslide over the Trollstigen. Fortunately, the road is currently closed for the winter.

On Friday evening, there was a landslide of ice and rock over county road 63 – Trollstigen.

This within the road closure point. The mountain pass is closed for the winter until 31 May.

– We have a contractor who has been on site and cleaned. A geologist is coming over the weekend, says traffic operator Lena Fjeseth in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration to VG.

She has not received feedback on whether everything has been cleaned up on site.

– There are quite a few roads here that have taken a beating now. We have to assess the terrain and see where this is coming from. We are going out there with a geologist on Monday, says Roar Vikhagen to TV 2.

He is a senior engineer in Møre and Romsdal County Municipality.

May Gjelsvik (30) was out walking with a friend at Trollstigfoten on Friday evening when they came across the slide.

– We suddenly encountered a broken road, large stones and trees that lay beyond, she says.

– We did not know that there had been a landslide there. But there were some pebbles that fell down the side of the mountain when we walked, so we joked a bit about it: Imagine if a huge landslide suddenly happened – and that’s what we encountered, she says.

She says that it seemed as if the landslide had just started when she filmed the stones in the road at 9.20pm.

– It smelled so fresh. It smells like cutting down trees, she says.

When they got home and read about the landslide in VG, they understood that it was what they had seen.

– Had we known what we know now, it would probably have been a little more frightening.
