More than a year after Denmark promised to give Ukraine at least 100 tanks in cooperation with Germany and the Netherlands, only 30 of them have been delivered, writes Jyllands-Posten.

The newspaper has obtained the figure from the German Ministry of Defence. The Danish ministry has only wanted to say that “many” of the promised Leopard 1 tanks have been delivered.

The Danish government announced last February – one year after Russia’s full-scale invasion – that Denmark, together with the Netherlands and Germany, would donate at least 100 tanks.

It was primarily about older Danish tanks that were in storage in Germany.

They had not been used for several years and therefore had to be checked and renovated before they could be sent to Ukraine, was the message.

It was expected that the first tanks would be ready within a few months, but it was not until September that the first part of the contribution was delivered.

Before that, there were several delays, including due to technical problems with getting the tanks back into working order. On 8 September, the Danish Ministry of Defense stated that ten of the tanks had arrived in Ukraine and that more were on their way. Half a year later, the number is up to 30.

– It is important to remember that donations of this magnitude and at this pace are unplowed ground for all of us. Therefore, challenges will arise along the way, says Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen to Jyllands-Posten.

The newspaper says that the deliveries of 14 Leopard 2 tanks that Denmark was supposed to acquire and give to Ukraine together with the Netherlands are also going slowly.

That donation was announced last April. After less than a year, two of the tanks have arrived in Ukraine.
