Queen Mary wore 17-year-old attire

Recently, Denmark’s royal couple, King Frederik (55) and Queen Mary (52), invited to their very first cabinet dinner in the Frederik VIII palace.

This is a dinner that is traditionally held once in each government’s term of office, and was last held with Queen Margrethe as host in 2021.

In connection with this dinner this year, the new royal couple posed for photographs with the guests, and the queen stood in the front, glittering in a trendy silver skirt. But even if silver is in at the moment, the outfit is by no means new.

The silver skirt and black top come from Danish By Malene Birger, and are reused from an official visit to New York 17 years ago!

The skirt was also used by the then Crown Princess Mary in 2019, when she posed for a large interview with the fashion magazine IN.

Large consumption

In the already mentioned interview, Mary spoke honestly about her clothing consumption, which is, after all, greater than most people’s. Therefore, it is all the more important to have a conscious relationship with it.

– I admit that my consumption of clothes is large, which is connected with the life, the role and the job I have. But I can do better, and I’m working on that, she said at the time.

And the fact that Mary wore this outfit again after 17 years confirms what she says. The Queen is concerned with a sustainable clothing industry, and in recent years has seen more and more reuse and redesign.

KK’s fashion and beauty manager, Ida Elise Eide Einarsdóttir, therefore also crowns her the reuse queen.

– Queen Mary is truly the queen of recycling. She wore the silver fringed skirt and top for the first time back in 2007 in New York, and then in an interview in the fashion magazine IN. Now she has brought it up once again. It sends an important signal, she says.

– So does the fact that it is Danish design. Not luxury, but high street, she adds.

More important than ever

Einarsdóttir emphasizes that it is also an important signal that it is Danish design – and not luxury, but high street.

– It bodes well for the new queen’s many looks in the future. Too many, it will be! she thinks.

Now that Mary has become queen, what the expert is up to means the more outfits. So far, many of the queen’s outfits have been reused, and according to the fashion expert, it is more important than ever that she fronts precisely this.

– It is even more important that she regularly chooses to recycle now than before. Simply to set an example and to send a signal. After all, she will also be Danish fashion’s high patron, and it will be highly relevant for her to choose more Danish design now.
