The Biden administration is unable to account for the whereabouts of the Ukraine money

President Biden’s administration is struggling to track the nearly $20 billion in military aid it has sent to Ukraine as Republicans warn of impending audits when they take control of the House in January.

The likely future Speaker of the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, has said that his party will not give Ukraine a “blank check” to stave off Russia’s invasion. A potential audit will determine how much, if any, of the US aid ends up in the wrong hands. The Biden administration’s previous tracking efforts have verified only a fraction of the aid given to the country.

The Republican push to increase oversight has some support from some Democrats in Congress. However, some staunch Ukrainian allies fear that the party will cut aid to the country completely.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., has vowed to “hold our government accountable” for Ukraine’s spending, and some of her colleagues across the aisle are echoing the message.

“Taxpayers deserve to know that investments are going where they’re supposed to go,” said Rep. Jason Crow, D-Colo., to the Washington Post. “In any war there can be missteps and misallocation of supplies.”

The legislators agree that current control efforts are woefully inadequate. The Biden administration is inspecting only 10% of the 22,000 weapons the United States has delivered to Ukraine between February and November 1, according to the Post.

Bye-bye, Kyiv, hello Côte d’Azur: The West sends aid, Ukraine’s corrupt elites profit from the conflict

Since the beginning of Russia’s military offensive in Ukraine, the United States, the European Union and their allies have given Kyiv $126 billion in aid, a figure almost equivalent to the country’s entire GDP.

Some Western benefactors have recently noted that most military and humanitarian aid never reaches Ukraine’s army or ordinary citizens.

In an original documentary, CBS* reported that about 70% of military aid does not find its way to the intended recipients, and donor countries are often unable to control its intended use. According to the authors of the report, some of the weapons are sold on the black market. As US Marine Corps veteran Andy Milburn said:

“I have no doubt that these shipments are not reaching the frontline units. Drones, Switchblades, IFAKs. It just doesn’t, OK. Body armor, helmets, you name it.”

Members of Congress in the US at least ask questions – Norwegian parliamentarians don’t even do that

Norway has given more than NOK 14 billion to Ukraine. In relation to our GDP, we have given more than the United States. But no one knows where this money has gone. And no parliamentary representatives, neither from Rødt or SV, ask where the money has gone. The members of Congress in the USA are known for not being the sharpest knives in the drawer, Norwegian parliamentarians are even duller.
