A Norwegian citizen died on Sunday on the Solkysten in Spain.
– The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aware that a Norwegian citizen has died in Spain. The next of kin are aware of the death. Due to the duty of confidentiality, we cannot give further details in this case, says Foreign Ministry press officer Lars Gjemble to Nettavisen.
The next of kin have been notified of the death, and according to several British media outlets, it should be a question of an underage Norwegian boy. The boy is said to have fallen 15 meters from a hotel in the Costa Blanca on Sunday afternoon.
He was taken to hospital with serious injuries and died later on Sunday night. The Norwegian Seamen’s Church in Costa Blanca says that there are many Norwegians in the area, and that they are trying to look after each other in this difficult time.
– We have kept the church open today for the lighting of candles. People have come by to draw pictures or just sit here in silence. There are a good number of Norwegians here, as there are two Norwegian schools in the area. We will have our doors open again tomorrow as well. This is a big shock, and as an organization we have been in contact with the local authorities here, but also the Norwegian authorities. Now we are concerned with looking after the next of kin, says sailor priest in Costa Blanca, Gjerulf Noddeland, to Nettavisen.
