Last week, Mahsa Amini died after being arrested by the Iranian morality police. The BBC has reported that witnesses saw police beating her to death. The reason must have been that she wore the hijab the wrong way.

According to Iranian police, Mahsa died of a heart attack. The family of the 22-year-old denies that she had heart problems.

Masha has family who live in Norway. Her aunt Ailya Aili fled from Iran to Norway in 1993 and lives in Sotra, writes Bergens Tidende.

– The cry is stuck in the throat all the time. I cannot accept that this has happened to my beautiful niece, says Aliya to BT.

Ailya’s son and Masha’s cousin, Dyako Mohammedi, describes the death as unreal.

– I was at work when I received a message from my mother that Mahsa had fallen into a coma. I couldn’t take it in, but continued working while I felt a growing restlessness in my body. The grief reaction only came later, he tells Bergensavisen.

The newspaper writes that the family is planning a demonstration against the regime in Iran. It will be held in the center of Bergen on Saturday.

Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt tells the newspaper that Norway will take up the matter with Iran.
