If there’s one thing Arkham fans and Warner Bros. can agree on, it’s that Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League was disappointing. The game failed to generate revenue and help recapture what made the Arkham games so great in the first place, leaving many wondering who it was for.

Apparently it wasn’t to anyone in particular, as the lack of revenue from the game has led to a $200 million loss in earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization. Warner’s CFO Gunnar Widenfels had the following to say:

“To start with Studios, the decline of over $400 million during the first quarter was primarily due to the very tough competition we faced in games against the success of Hogwart’s Legacy last year in the first quarter, along with the disappointing Suicide Squad release in last quarter, which we wrote down, leading to a $200 million impact on EBITDA during the first quarter.”

It’s hard to imagine that Warner Bros. thought it might just drum up the levels of success Hogwarts Legacy had at the same time next year, but even knowing it wasn’t going to achieve that amount of revenue, it still looks like Suicide Squad has flopped. And yet it seems that Warner Bros. still looking to push towards more live service titles.
