Earlier this month, it was announced that former NFL star OJ Simpson had passed away at the age of 76.
Now Simpson’s lawyer, Malcolm LaVergne, confirms the cause of death to People.

He says the football star died of metastatic prostate cancer.
Rumors have long abounded about Simpson’s type of cancer after the family confirmed that he had lost his battle with the disease. Several news media have also previously referred to prostate cancer as the cause of death.
Simpson had reportedly been battling prostate cancer for the past few years, and according to TMZ, his health had worsened in the time before his death.

In 2008, Simpson was sentenced to 33 years in prison for armed robbery and kidnapping, but with the possibility of parole after nine years.
He has been on parole since he completed his prison term in October 2017.
Simpson was also charged with the murder of his ex-wife and her friend in 1994, but was acquitted after what many have called “the trial of the century” in the United States in 1995. Almost 30 years later, the case is still widely discussed in the media.
