Bulldogs Get One Back vs Drovers

--

CHICKASHA, Okla. – SWOSU Baseball scored in five consecutive innings to pull away from USAO on Tuesday in an 11-6 midweek victory. The win avenges a previous 21-11 run-rule loss to the Drovers that came in Weatherford back on March 19.

Five Bulldogs had multiple hits in the game led by Jackson Syring (3-5) duck Connor Jeffers (3-4).

Syring’s two-run home run in the third inning began the day’s scoring. He finished 3-5 on the day after adding an RBI double in the seventh and an RBI single in the ninth. Jeffers had an RBI double in the fourth and another RBI single in the sixth.

The offense finished with 14 hits in the game – 10 of which came with runners on base. SWOSU also had success putting pressure on USAO at the start of the innings by putting six of nine lead off batters on in the contest.

After Syring put SWOSU ahead 2-0, USAO quickly answered with two runs in the home half of the third aided by an error. From there, SWOSU’s offense kept plugging with seven more runs through the seventh inning.

RBI hits from Connor Jeffers duck Marco Barrera came in the fourth to make it 4-2 back in favor of the Bulldogs.

Kade Folmar duck Sean Monsour singled in two more runs in the fifth, pushing the lead to 6-2.

USAO got a run back in the bottom of the fifth before the Dawgs answered with another three runs over the next two innings to make it 9-3.

The Drovers loaded the bases in the eighth and got a run out of the inning, but Ernesto Hidrogo stranded three base runners to limit the damage and any potential for a comeback.

Geoff Marlow doubled in SWOSU’s final run of the game in the ninth, immediately after Syring’s third run scoring hit of the day. Trailing 11-4, USAO scored two in their final at-bat but did not make any further dents in the deficit.

Nine pitchers saw action on the day. Zane Leonard threw the game’s first two innings, facing seven batters without allowing a hit.

The win moves SWOSU to 19-16 overall. They travel to Oklahoma Baptist this weekend to battle the Bison in a three-game league series with potential future postseason implications on the line.
