More people should have taken the 1 May train (Henrik Asheim, 1st deputy leader of the Conservative Party) (E24)
Norwegian working life is largely safe and orderly. But on Workers’ Day, a record number are still completely out of work. The reality is that record numbers are now completely out of work. Over 600,000 people. And the number is growing. The increase in young disabled people in particular is worrying. In other words, the development is exactly at odds with what a strengthening of the work line would imply.

The work line is the foundation of the welfare society we live in. People must be in work to finance welfare, and there must be more of them. So far, the government has spent all its waking hours closing doors to working life, while at the same time increasing social security benefits. It goes against everything the work line stands for. And everything we should fight for on 1 May. After all, the most important thing we can do is to give more people the opportunity to go on the trains. read more

The young Conservative leader wants hash at Vinmonopolet (VG)
Young Conservative leader Ola Svenneby wants hashish to be sold at Vinmonopolet or pharmacies, instead of it being sold by criminals on the street. – We have to realize that more police officers are not the solution to breaking gang crime, says Unge Høyre leader Ola Svenneby to VG. He says that if it were true that more police is the way to go, all countries would do it. – But it has not worked anywhere. We have to remove the market instead, says Svenneby. read more

The Conservative Party promises to scrap exit tax austerity (DN)
Angry entrepreneurs warn foreigners against moving to Norway. Tina Bru (H) and Linda Hofstad Helleland (H) ask Vedum to reject the new tightening of the exit tax. – It’s completely nonsense, says Bru.

– Even before the proposal has been adopted, we hear about entrepreneurs who move abroad and do not want to come to Norway or establish themselves in Norway. We force people with good solutions out of the country. We cannot live with that, says Helleland.

The promise from the Conservative Party is therefore resoundingly clear: – If we win the election, there will be no entrepreneurs’ tax like this. We are not supporters of reversal, but we cannot afford not to reverse this. This is more important than dissolving a county council, says Bru. read more

Egg shortage before 17 May: The Conservatives and Liberals want imports (E24)
Rema 1000 is expecting egg trouble in the run-up to National Day. – With the Center Party in government, a very large proportion of Norwegian consumers will still not have the opportunity to eat eggs, perhaps not even make scrambled eggs on May 17 itself, says Lene Westgaard-Halle, spokesperson for agricultural policy in the Conservative Party.

She and Alfred Bjørlo, spokesperson for agricultural policy in the Liberal Party, are now going out and asking Nortura to import eggs by 17 May. – Nortura is the market regulator and controls the entire egg market. Now they must ensure that safe eggs are imported from our neighboring countries until 17 May. read more

After Mehl refs: – Much confusion (The day bath)
The Minister of Justice was silenced, and the Storting and the government introduced a ban. But the some-giant’s European top thinks there is no cause for concern. – We think the concerns about security are misunderstood. We have never shared data with the Chinese authorities, nor will we do so if we are asked to, says James Lyons to Dagbladet.

He is head of policy comms in Europe for the very popular – and controversial – social media Tiktok. – We are completely open about which data we share with which authorities and regularly publish this on our websites, Lyons continues. read more

Finnmark fishermen blocked the Kystruten in Øksfjord and Kjøllefjord: – This will be a long battle (NRK)
Politician dissatisfaction is great along the Finnmark coast after the Storting adopted the quota report. On board a barge, Jon-Atle Bjørnø and 14 other fishing boats blocked the Havila Kystruten in Øksfjord in Loppa municipality this afternoon.

They did this in solidarity with their professional brothers further east in Finnmark who campaigned yesterday. Attacks the LO leader: – She is failing her members (NRK)
1 May is the labor movement’s International Day of Struggle. But Frps’ Sylvi Listhaug believes LO is not fighting enough. – I think she is letting her members down, because it seems she is more concerned with protecting the Labor Party than standing up for the workers, she says to NRK.

Listhaug believes that LO’s efforts for Norwegian wage earners deserve a failing grade. – In recent years, people have received worse advice. What was supposed to be ordinary people’s trip has become a continuous decline. read more

The state outbid two competitors by one billion in a secret battle for Meraker Brug (DN)
The government assured the Storting that the price of NOK 2.65 billion was within what “other bidders would be able to value” Meraker Brug for. Now the lawyer for one of the bidders is coming forward – to correct the story.

– In this bidding process, we considered it unthinkable and pointless that anyone could or would bid such an amount, and that was also the case for our clients, says business and property lawyer in Thommessen for 37 years, Gerhard Holm. He adds: – When our clients reached 1.655 billion, the annual return was already in the single digits in our calculations. 2.65 billion it was completely pointless to bid. It is not possible to calculate home – and far above what is proportionately paid for other comparable properties, says Holm. read more

Will challenge China’s dominance with Norwegian minerals (Finansavisen)
Politicians from the Conservative Party, the Liberal Party and the Christian People have come together on a proposal that will provide more land-based mineral extraction in Norwegian hills and rocks.

– There is a lot of geopolitics in this. China has made it very clear that it is not interested in letting go of the control it has over the microchip value chain. I think it is also important that we get European and Western cooperation on this, says Bård Ludvig Thorheim, representative of the Conservative Party in the Storting’s energy and environment committee. read more
