Trump wants to remove the judge in the case that he allegedly paid money to Stormy Daniels – Dagsavisen

According to Donald Trump, the fact that a judge’s daughter works for a consulting firm with Democrats as clients constitutes a conflict of interest.

Trump made a similar push last year to remove the judge, who denied the request after an ethics board determined that his daughter’s work did not raise reasonable questions about his objectivity.

– Can no longer be overlooked

In a letter sent to the court on Monday and made public on Tuesday, Trump’s lawyer points out that the trial will benefit the judge’s daughter Loren Merchan’s firm, Authentic Campaigns, financially.

– It can no longer be overlooked that Authentic’s financial interests benefit from developments in this case, write the lawyers.

In a document to the court on Tuesday, Attorney General Alvin Bragg’s office is asking the judge not to comply with Trump’s request.

– There is simply nothing new here that will change the court’s previous conclusion that nothing in this case will give Authentic or family members of the court members direct benefits, nor the court, writes the prosecution.

Trial April 15

Trump is aiming to delay trials in all four cases against him until after the Nov. 5 presidential election. He denies guilt in all cases.

In the case in question, Donald Trump is accused of violating the Accounting Act in connection with payments to porn actress Stormy Daniels in order for her to remain silent about a sexual relationship she claims she had with Trump in 2006.

The criminal trial, which is scheduled to begin on April 15, is the first in history against a former US president. Trump himself claims that the case is a witch hunt.

On Monday, Judge Merchan expanded Trump’s gag from the week before to include not only attacks on the judge himself, but also his family. It happened after the former president made false accusations against the judge’s daughter in social media.
