In recent years, American democracy has become a topic in the United States. Congress storming, influence from foreign powers and fake news have been singled out as threats to the American people’s government.

Next to the giants Donald Trump and Joe Biden is also Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to the start of this year’s presidential election in the United States. He chose to run as an independent candidate after he failed to be nominated as the presidential candidate for the Democrats.

In an interview with CNN, Kennedy directed strong criticism at his former party colleague Joe Biden, and claims that the sitting president poses a far greater threat to democracy than Republican Donald Trump.

– Much worse

The statement came during Monday’s broadcast of the program “Outfront”. There, Kennedy was asked if he thought Trump and Biden were equal threats to democracy.

The answer was clear:

– President Biden is much worse. The reason is that Biden is the first candidate and president to use federal agencies to censor political speech and opponents, Kennedy said, according to CNN.

Newsweekwrites that the presidential candidate claims Biden is forcing companies like Facebook and Twitter to give federal agencies access to social platforms in a way that allows political voices to be censored.

In 2021, Kennedy had his Instagram account removed after posting claims about the coronavirus and vaccines that had already been disproved. Last year, Kennedy got his account back after it became clear he was running for office.

What about Trump?

After the statement, Kennedy was challenged with the storming of Congress and allegations of electoral fraud on Trump’s part.

– I think you are a threat to democracy if you try to defy an election. It is clearly a threat, he said, but is adamant that he believes Biden is a greater threat based on the previous claim.

Kennedy has minimal chances against Trump and Biden if the trio stands until the election in November.

With his 70 years, Kennedy lowers the average age of the candidates. Biden and Trump are 81 and 77 years old, respectively.

Big shoes to fill

Environmental lawyer Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is the son of former Attorney General Robert Kennedy and the nephew of former President John F. Kennedy and former Senator Edward “Ted” Kennedy.

He has previously made a name for himself with his vaccine skepticism during the corona pandemic.

At the end of March, it became clear that he has chosen the 38-year-old California lawyer Nicole Shanahan as his vice-presidential candidate.
