A man has been arrested and charged with murder after a woman was declared dead in an apartment in the Grünerløkka district of Oslo on the night of Monday. The accused himself notified the police.

– He is cooperating and has explained what has happened. He has pleaded guilty, defender Bjørn Rudjord told Dagbladet earlier on Monday.

The accused and the deceased have known each other for many years, police inspector Grete Lien Metlid told Dagbladet. They have mutual acquaintances and come from the same place, according to Metlid.

– He has explained that it was a situation that arose there and then, says Metlid.

The police are working to verify the accused’s explanation, and are conducting interviews with the aim of elucidating the explanation and the relationship between the accused and the deceased.

– He has announced a motive?

– Yes. He has said something about it, yes, says Metlid.

Metlid also states that the deceased had been visiting the accused for several days. She does not want to elaborate on the duration of the visit.

– As it appears now, there has been an explanation as to why she had been with him, and stayed with him for a few days.

Investigation has revealed that the accused and the deceased were in town together, and came home at night, according to the police inspector.

– Then this incident happens, which he has explained about today, and then he calls the police, says Metlid.
