Gossett also won an Emmy for the well-known TV series “Roots” in 1977. It is his cousin Neal L. Gossett who informs the AP news agency that the actor died on Thursday evening in Santa Monica outside Los Angeles.
He began his acting career in the 1950s, while still in high school, playing opposite actors such as Marilyn Monroe and Steve McQueen. However, he received very few leading roles throughout his career.
Gossett is also known for roles in TV shows such as “Stargate SG-1” and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is survived by two sons.
