Levanger’s cup adventure continues. The team won 4-2 after extra time at home over the elite series team Viking in the 4th round of the cup.
After full time it was 2-2, but Levanger were willing to make sacrifices and were effective in the extra time, and secured their place in the quarter-finals.
Viking also produced several chances, but failed to convert them. It peaked for the Rogalands club when Gianni Stensness was sent off after the final whistle.
It made NRK expert Åge Hareide furious:
– As idiotic as it gets, really. Once you have delivered a poor performance and then you ask for another card. They have to fix that. It is clear that it is disappointing for the Vikings, but that is football.
Vålerenga knocked out their second straight elite series team from the cup when they won on penalties at home over HamKam on Wednesday evening.
Vålerenga have had anything but a good start to their 1st division existence, but have still done well in the cup. Last week, Tromsø was knocked out, and the Oslo team followed up with Wednesday’s victory over “Kamma”.
Luc Mares, Julian Gonstad and John Olav Norheim became the scapegoats when they missed their penalties. Martin Kreuzriegler and Aaron Kiil Olsen were also unable to score their attempts for Vålerenga.
The quarter-finals, which will not be played until autumn, were drawn on Wednesday evening.
- Vålerenga – Fredrikstad
- Sandnes Ulf – Levanger
- Lillestrøm/Strømsgodset – Molde
- Stabæk – YMCA Oslo.
