Anders Besseberg, Norwegian Sports Confederation | Besseberg is deprived of honorary membership in NIF

--

The Swedish Sports Confederation confirms the news during open hours on Thursday morning.

– Verdict from the District Court established a breach of various provisions in the Criminal Code. Among other things, there is a prison sentence of three years and one month. The verdict has been appealed. On the basis of recognized objectionable conditions that emerge from the district court’s judgment against Anders Besseberg, the sports board considers that he has damaged the reputation of sport, the board states.

– Anders Besseberg is stripped of his honorary membership in NIF with immediate effect.

Besseberg’s co-defender Mikkel Toft Gimse reacts strongly to the news.

– Anders Besseberg is not familiar with this. We are reacting to the fact that he has not been contacted, but learn about this from the media, Toft Gimse writes to NTB and elaborates:

– Besseberg emphasizes that the judgment against him is not legally binding and sees this as part of the preliminary judgment against him.

The 78-year-old, who was recently sentenced to three years and one month in prison for gross corruption, is stripped of his honorary membership of the Norwegian Sports Confederation.

The 78-year-old has been an honorary member of the sports association since 2013. He was IBU president in the period 1993 to 2018.

When the honorary membership was given in 2013, it was justified that Besseberg had “contributed to developing the sport of biathlon, both as a form of competition and as a televised sport”.
