Sylvester Stallone rarely sells a watch – can go for DKK 27 million.

--

Hollywood legend Sylvester Stallone will auction off a Patek Philippe watch worth 2.5 million dollars – 27 million kroner – at the auction company Sotheby’s Trove.

The actor is selling an extremely rare Grandmaster Chime – the most complicated watch ever made by Patek – as well as a Panerai he used in the Hollywood film Expendables 2.

Rocky legend Sylvester Stallone will sell a total of 11 watches at Sotheby’s on June 5.

This is the first time a Grandmaster Chime has been auctioned commercially. During Only Watch’s charity auction in 2019, a steel model was sold for a whopping $31 million – NOK 336 million – which set a record.

Two sides of the same story

The Grandmaster Chime is a unique clock. According to Patek Philippe’s website, it has two sides – a dial on each side of the case.

Stallone’s version of the two-sided movement is in white gold. It has five different clock chimes, has a perpetual calendar and can track two time zones. The watch is so rare that it comes with an extensive presentation box that includes a book and plaque, both with Stallone’s name, an original certificate, cufflinks and an iPad in a Patek Philippe leather case. The watch itself remains in its packaging – Stallone has never worn the watch himself.

According to Stallone, he bought the Grandmaster Chime as a collector with no intention of using it.

He says that the watch was not easy to get hold of and that he had to appeal to the most senior men in the company to be awarded his copy. He compares the watch to a Monet work of art and sells it with mixed feelings.

Stallone is also selling a Panerai watch he wore in Expendables 2. He also gave several such watches to his co-stars, including Arnold Schwarzenegger.

– I always thought bronze Luminor was incredible, because of the metal. The design reminds me of the Titanic and has this industrial feel. I knew I had to use it in the film, because it would make such a big impression, says Stallone.

The watch he is selling is numbered 000, and according to Stallone himself is probably the first Panerai made.

– I have put this watch through trials; underwater, above water, in the sand, fight scenes – you name it. It was my companion throughout that film and also afterwards. I have enjoyed this watch so much. And now, why not let someone else enjoy it as much as I did? Stallone asks rhetorically.
