This is reported by Nottingham Forest in a press release.

The resignation is a consequence of Clattenburg being involved in several controversies since his appointment in February.

The role of the 49-year-old meant that he would be available to the club if they wanted to consult about various refereeing situations.

“The services have led to unintentional friction between Nottingham Forest and other players to the extent that it has become more of a hindrance than a help to the club,” says Clattenburg in the statement.

Among other things, Nottingham Forest accused VAR referee Stuart Attwell of being a Luton fan after Forest missed a penalty in several situations in the 0–2 loss against Everton.

Clattenburg has been given a formal warning by the FA for his comments after that match.

It is also https://twitter.com/FAspokesperson/status/1786410443927359870 against manager Nuno Espirito Santos and defender Neco Williams for the comments they made after the game.

The club also raged against the referees after Liverpool scored nine minutes into extra time and secured a 1–0 victory.

Clattenburg says that several football experts have come out against him as a reaction to the controversies.

“Such reactions and outcomes were not expected and are regrettable, as it is my sincere belief that there is a place and value in such a role in the modern game,” he continues.

– I am disappointed with Nottingham Forest. Hiring a former referee to tell you why you have decisions against you is, for my part, taking it a step too far, football expert Gary Neville has previously stated about the appointment.
