Reigning champion Molde escaped with a scare – turned around to win after Sarpsborg’s expulsion

Sarpsborg 08 was close to a real cup bomb, before Sondre Ørjasæter was sent to the shower. Then the reigning champions turned Molde to a 4-2 victory at home.

Thus, Molde’s dream of defending the NM title is still alive.

It was Sarpsborg who came out the best from the starting blocks when Peter Reinhardsen sent Sarpsborg into the lead after just over half an hour.

Three minutes into the 2nd half, Kristian Eriksen equalized for Molde, but that result didn’t last even for a minute before Sondre Ørjasæter sent the Easterners into the lead again.

Unfortunately for the 20-year-old, the road from hero to scapegoat was short when he launched a pig tackle on Eirik Haugan. It resulted in his second yellow card and marching order.

This opened up a lot of room for the reigning champions, who scored two quick goals signed by Anders Hagelskjær and Magnus Wolff Eikrem.

With eight minutes left on the clock, Eirik Hestad decided the result for the hosts.

In Bærum, Stabæk progressed with a 5-1 victory over division colleague Bryne, while Sandnes Ulf won 5-3 away over Eidsvold Turn. Fredrikstad also secured promotion with a 3-2 win over Raufoss.

After extra time, YMCA also managed to progress with a 3-2 victory over Lysekloster, while Vålerenga progressed on penalties at the expense of HamKam. (NTB)
