– People said I was so professional… Some of my behavior was absolutely disgraceful, says Roy Keane in the football podcast “Stick to Football”.

The now 52-year-old Irishman sits around a table with other former great players such as Gary Neville (Manchester United), Jamie Carragher (Liverpool) and Ian Wright (Arsenal).

Keane opens up about his alcohol habits which, compared to the everyday life of today’s footballers, are very surprising.

If the team didn’t play a midweek game, he could potentially drink four days in a row:

– I definitely drank on Saturday. Definitely on Sunday. Many times I drank Saturday after the game, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. Beer or whatever it was I was drinking at the time, Keane says, adding.

– I always set the limit on Wednesday, he concludes.

Recently, Keane appeared in Norway in this photo with former teammate Ole Gunnar Solskjær:

Keane was Manchester United captain between 1997 and 2005. The midfielder won seven Premier League trophies, one Champions League and numerous FA Cups for the Manchester club.

Over time, football has become more and more professional and it is common knowledge that the vast majority of footballers at such a high level as the Premier League drink very little or even no alcohol during a season.
