This is shown by a recent report from the European Summit.

In 2023, Norwegian clubs sold players for a total of NOK 959 million. This was a marked increase from 355 million in 2022.

– These are fantastic numbers, and it shows that players in Norwegian clubs are attractive on the international market. At the same time, there is a risk that the league will be weakened if you are unable to fill up with self-developed players or miss player purchases, says NTF’s sports manager Erik Hoftun to NTB.

– It’s not just about getting money in and believing that everything will work out automatically, adds the former defense veteran.

In recent years there has been a formidable increase. Since 2016 alone, the total earnings from player sales in Norwegian football have increased by NOK 731 million.

– Work has been done very well in the clubs for a long time, and there is a proper structure to the work done in the academies. In addition, Molde and Bodø/Glimt have done well in Europe, which is also the best showcase. Erling Braut Haaland and Martin Ødegaard also show that it is possible to be good if you come from Norway, smiles Hoftun.

Last year, Molde alone sold players for close to a quarter of a billion kroner, while Bodø/Glimt (149 million) and Rosenborg (105 million) also passed a three-digit number of millions.

The report shows that the three clubs together with Vålerenga and Stabæk have earned NOK 1.6 billion from player sales since 2016.

Rosenborg is the team that has spent the most money on players from abroad since 2016. The Trønders have traded for NOK 127 million. Glimt follows with 98 million.
