Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are defying warnings from the US State Department

In April, it was announced that Prince Harry (39) and Duchess Meghan Markle (42) will visit Nigeria later this month in connection with the Invictus Games.

However, British tabloid website Mirror believes that by doing so, they are ignoring strong security warnings from the US State Department, which advises people not to travel to the country. In the US, the country has been given a level 3 warning, which is the second highest level of risk.

The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also warns against traveling to Nigeria.

“Nigeria is characterized by an unpredictable security situation. There is a significant risk of crime, terrorism, clashes between community groups (social unrest), armed attacks, abductions/kidnappings and traffic accidents,” the government’s website says.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs further advises against all travel to or stay in the north-eastern states and along the coast in the Niger Delta.

Speaking to The Express, former royal protection officer Dai Davies has stated that it appears “hypocritical” for Meghan and Harry to insist on visiting Nigeria, after Harry raised issues with the risk to him by coming to the UK.

– It is strange that he personifies the risk factors here and is willing to travel to one of the world’s most dangerous countries.

– I would like to know the reason for this visit to what is a very dangerous place.

The prince has gone to court to get support for police protection when he visits his home country, but he has not succeeded. After he and his wife stepped down as senior members of the royal family, they had limited access to publicly funded security measures.

Se og Hør’s royal house expert Caroline Vagle, on the other hand, thinks it sounds a little strange that the princely couple are defying the warnings they have been given.

– If it is true that Harry and Meghan are defying strong warnings, I think it is strange. After all, they have been very concerned about their safety on a general basis.

She still does not want to add too much to what the Mirror writes.

– Having said that, we must remember that the British media love to find fault with them, and make up such cases. In this case, we do not know whether they have received direct warnings, or what security arrangements they may receive during such a journey, she says.
