Shock message: – Not lucky

--

STORO (Dagbladet): Several people closed their eyes when Chelsea coach Emma Hayes stated earlier this year that it is not appropriate for players on the same football team to have a romantic relationship.

– Relationships between coach and player are inappropriate, but also relationships between two players are inappropriate, Hayes was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency.

– Not quite lucky

Barcelona and Norway star Ingrid Syrstad Engen has caught up with Hayes’ statements, which shocked many.

– She has probably said afterwards that those statements were not entirely lucky. So I think those of us in the environment see that there are examples that work perfectly well and are natural. As long as you stay professional, I think it will go well. That is my opinion about it, says Engen to Dagbladet.

The Barcelona player – who has recently played great for the club – has previously shared photos of herself embracing Barcelona player Maria Pilar León – among other things with the text “I love you”. Several media have referred to them as lovers.

– I think that in retrospect she says that it came out the wrong way, so I rather think about it, Engen continues.

According to The Athletic, the Chelsea coach is said to have believed that the statement had been blown out of proportion.

– I’m supposed to be the most well-trained, non-clickbait head coach, and I let myself down yesterday. It was not right for me to use the term “inappropriate” for the players, she is said to have said.

– She used the wrong word

In the Chelsea team, defender Jess Carter is in a relationship with goalkeeper Ann-Katrin Berger. Hayes then stated – according to The Athletic – that she had spoken to the former.

– I have zero criticism of any player in the dressing room for anything. Their professionalism, for what they have given to the club regardless of their status, regardless of who they are in a relationship with.

Norway’s national team manager Emma Grainger has also received the statements of countrywoman and fellow coach Hayes.

– I think she used the wrong words. I think it was taken out of context and she would quickly correct it, Grainger begins to Dagbladet.

– As in women’s football and in sport in general, we must ensure that the environment is safe. We must ensure that there are clear guidelines and routines, continues the former Wales coach.

Graninger will lead Norway when the team will face Finland and the Netherlands in the upcoming EC qualifiers. First up is Finland next Friday.
