The new agreement includes, among other things, better pay for Universal’s artists and songwriters, as well as better protection against artificial intelligence (AI).
– We look forward to working with the team at TikTok to advance the interests of our artists and songwriters, says CEO Sir Lucian Grainge of Universal Music Group (UMG).
– The day of joy
The agreement means, among other things, that music from artists such as Astrid S, Taylor Swift, U2, Drake, Adele will be available again with the popular app.
One of the artists who is satisfied is Ramón.
– The day of joy, writes the artist on Snapchat.
– Not that I care, but I have an album due out this year, he writes further.
Cooperation between the parties
– Music is an integral part of the TikTok ecosystem, and we are happy to have found a way forward with Universal Music Group, says CEO Shou Chew of TikTok in connection with the news.
The agreement also means that TikTok and UMG will work together to ensure that the development of AI in the music industry protects the economy that flows to artists and songwriters, as well as new opportunities for promotion.
Several months without
Music from Universal has not been found on TikTok since February this year. The reason was that the parties could not agree on a new license agreement.
In the negotiations for a new license agreement earlier this year, among other things, Universal put pressure on TikTok to get better remuneration for artists and songwriters.
– TikTok is trying to build a music-based business without fair payment for the music, the record company stated at the time.
It is unknown exactly when the music will be back on TikTok.
