THE CLUB CONFIRMS:
The nightmare season of Manchester United’s Argentinian centre-back Lisandro Martinez will never end.
On Tuesday, the club writes that the 26-year-old will miss another month of football due to a muscle injury in his calf.
Thus, Martinez misses the matches against Chelsea, Liverpool, Bournemouth, Newcastle, Coventry (FA Cup) and Burnley. The away game against Crystal Palace on May 4 is a potential return date for the 26-year-old.
Martinez was pictured with the rest of his teammates at Carrington on Tuesday. It is therefore reasonable to assume that the injury occurred during the training session.
The Argentine has already lost 30 of 41 games this season. At the end of last season, he missed twelve games.
Victor Lindelöf, who had to leave the field against Brentford, also has to spend one month on the sidelines. He is struggling with his hamstring.
Martinez suffered a foot injury in April last year, before a setback in September kept the centre-back out of action until January. At the start of February, he injured his knee in the home game against West Ham, and it took almost two months before he was back in action against Brentford last weekend.
Erik ten Hag has barely had the opportunity to field his supposed best eleven in a single game this season. Now the Dutchman has had further problems to deal with.
With Martinez and Lindelöf out, Ten Hag only have Maguire and Varane as options at stopper. However, the latter was replaced at half-time in the 1-1 match against Brentford on Saturday, and the Frenchman is therefore considered uncertain.
On Thursday, Manchester United play an away match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
