Data center company Green Mountain has been fined NOK 2 million by the Norwegian Directorate of Water Resources and Energy (NVE).
The background is that the company started the construction of a data center in Hamar without having the necessary permission. The plant will supply a planned data centre, where Tiktok is one of the customers.
– It is serious to start building without a permit. When actors start work without a permit, it undermines the entire licensing scheme, says section manager Anne Johanne Kråkenes in NVE.
The facility in Hamar consists of a total of five data center buildings, each with a capacity of 30 megawatts, for a total of 150 megawatts. Thus, on an annual basis, the plant will use almost 1 percent of the electricity produced in Norway.
NVE warns that in future they will tighten supervision of illegal construction of energy facilities.
