On 12 April this year, Ingvild Kjerkol (Ap) resigned as Minister of Health and Care. It happened after it emerged that she had been caught cheating on her master’s thesis from 2021.

Claims validity

Ingvild Kjerkol believes that the censorship from 2021 is valid, and that her master’s thesis should not have been cancelled. She is complaining about the decision from the Board for Student Affairs.

This is stated by Kjerkol via his lawyer Marianne Klaussen to NTB.

The tribunal based its decision on the same factual basis as the examiners had in 2021, according to a press release which explains the decision to appeal.

– The examiners made a proper assessment in 2021 and have not gone beyond the legal framework they have as professionals, writes Kjerkol’s lawyer.

– The censorship decision they made is therefore valid, and the master’s thesis should not have been cancelled, she writes further.

Silent

The former Minister of Health and Care himself did not wish to elaborate on the decision to complain to NTB.

– Ingvild Kjerkol has resigned as minister and is now head of the Storting’s energy and environment committee. She wants to focus on her new tasks and does not want to give any further comment on the complaint, writes Klausen.

Kjerkol nevertheless states a wish that the appeals board should be given peace of mind during the next assessment of the task. At the same time, she admits that the press attention is understandable.
