15 April marks 35 years since the Hillsborough tragedy that led to the loss of 97 supporters’ lives. Almost weekly, we are reminded of how important it is that the tragedy is still marked. We keep hearing about supporters singing derogatory songs about Hillsborough, among other things, and the Football Association and the police are now working closely with Premier League clubs to put an end to it.

In the next issue of The Kopite, you can read an interview with the head of the Hillsborough Survivors Support Alliance about how they are still working to care for survivors of the tragedy. We have also interviewed Ian Byrne, who sits in parliament and is working to get Hillsborough into the curriculum in British schools.

As early as this weekend, Liverpool FC begins its commemoration of the 35th anniversary of the Hillsborough tragedy. The players will wear armbands in Saturday’s match between Liverpool FC Women and Manchester City at Prenton Park, and there will also be a minute’s silence before the match.

For the men’s team, the biggest mark will come in connection with the home match against Crystal Palace on 14 April. The following day, the whole club will hold a minute’s silence at 15:06 English time.

At the academy, training will be given to the club’s young players about Hillsborough and the fight for justice, among other things.
