The former Spanish football president Luis Rubiales risks 2.5 years in prison if the prosecutors in Madrid get what they want, reports the news agency Efe.

Rubiales (46) is accused of sexual assault in connection with the much talked about kiss after the World Cup final last summer. Rubiales then kissed the star striker Jennifer Hermoso on the mouth, and afterwards the prosecution opened an investigation against the top football player.
Rubiales is also accused of having pressured both Hermoso, a national team manager and two confederation employees to support him following the episode.
On Wednesday, the prosecution is asking for the 46-year-old to receive a sentence of 2.5 years, write the news agencies Efe and AFP. The indictment against him was brought out in January after several months of investigation and witness interviews. At the same time, it is requested that Rubiales not be allowed to contact Hermoso and that he be monitored.
In addition, the prosecution has asked for 1.5 years in prison for several figures within the association. Both the sports manager for the men’s national team, Albert Luque, former women’s coach Jorge Vilda and the marketing manager Ruben Rivera can be punished, writes Sport.
In September, Rubiales had to resign as football president and as vice-president of the European Football Association (Uefa).
Recently, Rubiales’ residence and office were searched by Spanish police. It happened as part of the investigation into money laundering and corruption in connection with the Spanish Football Association’s agreement to move the domestic Super Cup to Saudi Arabia.
