Bodø/Glimt coach Kjetil Knutsen is wanted by Ajax. Now the Dutch club’s director confirms that there is contact between the parties.

Ajax’s sporting director Sven Mislintat confirms contact with Kjetil Knutsen’s agent.

– I have spoken to his agent about several topics, says Mislintat to the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf.

Knutsen is represented by Morten Wivestad and Mike Kjølø in Keypass AS.

In the position of manager, Ajax is looking for a coach with specific qualities.

– The profile is attractive, plays offensive football, develops young players from the academy and has performed in previous clubs, says the Ajax director.

The newspaper writes that Kjetil Knutsen from Bodø/Glimt seems to fulfill these criteria.

John Heitinga (39), who has been temporary coach at Ajax after Alfred Schreuder was fired in January, was told on Thursday afternoon that he will not be offered the vacant managerial job.

– It was a difficult decision because John is a good person and a great personality. But the entire period with Heitinga has been below par. He didn’t win the big games, says Mislintat.

After general manager Edwin van der Sar, Heitinga is the second Ajax icon to leave the club in a short time.
