The TV chat “Wednesday” is on everyone’s lips during the day, at least if TikTok is to be believed.

The series is a spin-off from the classic “Addams family”, and follows the life of Wednesday Addams.

And there is one thing in particular they have pressed to their chest, namely the “Wednesday” dance with Jenna Ortega (20) in the lead. In the series, the character dances at Nevermore Academy’s annual Rave’N Dance to the song “Goo Goo Muck” by The Cramps. The dance is now raging on social media – preferably with music from Lady Gaga – and everything from North West to the man in the street has jumped on the trend.

But according to the actress herself, Jenna Ortega, she didn’t have as steely control as it might seem.

Hadn’t practiced

It is Ortega himself who has created the choreography, i.e. put together the dance steps, for the dance.

And it all happened at full speed, without much time for rehearsal. During a visit to Jimmy Fallon and “The Tonight Show”, it is revealed that she lied when director Tim Burton asked how it went.

– Two days later, Tim came by and said that he knew I had a handle on the dance, that I had worked on it, and that he trusted me. I replied that of course I had and that everything was fine. Actually, I hadn’t gone through it at all, says Ortega to the talk show host Fallon, and reveals that nothing was clear.

She goes on to say that she simply did not have time, as there were many other things going on in the show.

– I’m not a dancer. I don’t do things like that, and have no experience in the field. I didn’t sleep for two days, watching different clips to gather inspiration. So I just went for it, she says.

In addition, the dance scene was recorded while she had Covid, according to NME.

– I’m not a dancer, and I’m sure that’s obvious, she tells the magazine.

She found inspiration in clips of Siouxsie and the Banshees, Denis Lavant i “Beau Travail”, actual clips of goths dancing in the 80s, Lene Lovich and Nina Hagen. She also added a tribute to Lisa Loring, who originally played Wednesday Addams in the 60s.

Child star

In the interview, she says that employees on the TV set thought that the dance was going to be a hit, but that she refused to believe them.

When the series “Wednesday” was launched on Netflix, it immediately became a hit. It is the second most streamed in Netflix history and has been viewed over a billion times.

Do you think there is anything familiar about Jenna Ortega? She got her breakthrough as an actress in the series Stuck in the Middle (Harley in the middle) in, and has also played in several other films and TV series. She is perhaps best known from “Jane the Virgin”, “You” and the horror film “Scream”.
