19-year-old woman dead after roller skiing accident – NRK Rogaland – Local news, TV and radio

• UPDATED: It was the 19-year-old Slovenian national team runner Hana Mazi Jamnik who died in the accident.

– A 19-year-old woman died after she was involved in an accident with a truck when she was roller-skiing south of Jørpeland today, says police attorney Sveinung Andersen, according to a press release.

The police were notified of the accident at 08:41.

– The woman was transported to Stavanger University Hospital by air ambulance. Unfortunately, life was not there to save, says Andersen.

The sequence of events is currently unknown to the police.

– The police are currently interviewing witnesses, and forensics technicians are at the scene of the accident and will work there throughout the day, Andersen says.

Suspect negligent driving

The driver of the lorry has been deprived of his driving licence, and is therefore charged with breaching Section 3 of the Road Traffic Act, which covers negligent driving.

– In order to seize a driver’s license, there must be reasonable grounds to suspect that there has been negligent driving. Beyond that, we must come back to what has happened at a later time. But we are starting to form a picture, says Andersen to NRK.

Sigurd Rønningen defends the accused. According to Andersen, the accused will be questioned during the afternoon.

– I am not aware that there have been eyewitnesses to the accident, says Andersen.

The accident happened in the Botsheitunnelen, and there is a detour sign at the scene. The road may be closed for a long time to come. There is a detour via county road 4638 Kvalvågveien from Botne and Lysefjordbrua.

Bjørn Arill Veland (KrF) is acting mayor in Strand municipality.

He says that the deceased girl does not come from Strand municipality, but that the accident still affects the municipality today.

– This is a very tragic incident for everyone involved and affected. It is something that characterizes a society now, says Veland to NRK.

The acting mayor also says that the tunnel where the accident happened is dark. The municipality now wants to look after those affected after the accident.

– We have made our crisis team available to those affected in the case, and those who are around this girl. This is how we will follow the matter further.

Traffic chaos on site

Just before half past two, Vegtrafikksentralen states that it will take approximately two hours before they can open the site. At 16:05 the road was reopened.

– There is quite a lot of traffic in the area. The bypass is not intended for either heavy transport or motorhomes, and there is probably quite a bit of traffic chaos in the bends and corners down there, says John Andreas Omdal of the Swedish Traffic Agency.

They are warning large vehicles against using the bypass.
