Kobbie Mainoo has been nominated for the Premier League award.

There were few who, before the season, had imagined that Kobbie Mainoo would be one of the pillars of Manchester United. But that is exactly what the man, who recently turned 19, has become.

The academy product has, after his Premier League debut in November against Everton, never looked back. Mainoo has made 20 league appearances this season and scored two goals. The match-winning goal against Wolves in February and it the score in the 2-2 draw against Liverpool at Old Trafford.

Now a brilliant season for the United jewel can be crowned by being named the young player of the year in the Premier League, but he faces tough competition. Erling Braut Haaland, Phil Foden and Bukayo Saka are among the players nominated for the award.

In January, Mainoo ran away with the player of the month award internally at the club. In the same month, he was called up for his first national team assignment for the A team to England. It ended with a debut at Wembley in the 1-0 loss against Brazil. The next match he started for “the three lions”. It ended 2-2 against Belgium.
