– They have had post-traumatic stress for a long time

--

“Sha-la-la-la-la, Christian Borchgrevink” chanted the Vålerenga fans at Østblokka steadily after the penalty triumph was sealed.

It was indeed Fidel Brice Ambina who scored the sixth and decisive penalty, but it was Vålerenga’s fifth penalty taker who stole most of the attention.

– I was never in doubt, I asked to take, me. But I went straight to my parents after the game. They have had post-traumatic stress for a long time, so when they saw me walking up there, I think they were about to die, says Borchgrevink.

HamKam led the penalty shootout 3–2 when the scapegoat from the relegation drama against Kristiansund again went to the penalty mark.

Christian Borchgrevink had to score for Vålerenga not to be relegated. But missing out was never an option.

– I have taken many penalty kicks in the head in the last year. It was quite good to be able to do it and get it on target, says Borchgrevink to VG in this interview:

But this time Christian Borchgrevink put the penalty safely in the goal and thus both teams had to take a sixth penalty.

– It says that he is quite tough when he wants to go forward there. And that he manages to do it with such a direct and determined execution, says Vålerenga coach Geir Bakke to VG.

– He is so strong mentally that when he gets the chance again, I was quite sure. I wish him that. I know how much it means to him, so it was really, really fun to see, says teammate Magnus Bech Riisnæs to VG.

The huge cheering for Borchgrevink’s penalty continued. While HamKam stopper John Olav Norheim blew the ball over, Vålerenga player Fidel Brice Ambina put the ball in the goal and sent Vålerenga to the quarter-finals of the cup.

– There is passion and suffering for each other, says Bakke.

Now Fredrikstad awaits in the quarter-finals of the cup. It will not be played until autumn.

It seemed that Vålerenga would advance in regular time. They led 2–1, but four minutes into overtime, HamKam substitute Gard Simenstad hammered home a rare free kick.

It was an icy shower for a Vålerenga team that for a long time seemed to build on the weekend’s victory against Bryne – the club’s first home win in series playTromsø were beaten in the cup three days earlier, but then extra innings were needed to secure the victory. since September 17 last year.

Instead, the home ghost continues to haunt the capital club. Just like against Tromsø, extra time was needed to decide the match.

However, Vålerenga opened terrifically. There was absolutely nothing to indicate that two teams from two different divisions met at Intility Arena – at least not to Vålerenga’s disadvantage.

  • Even before five minutes had been played, midfielder Elias Hagen hammered home 1-0 with a well-placed shot.
  • Only minutes later, Mees Rijks doubled the lead for Vålerenga before eight minutes had been played.
  • Vålerenga continued to dominate. After 22 minutes, Magnus Bech Riisnæs showed his pace and elegance when he raided from midfield and scored 2-0 for the hosts.

If anything, it was Vålerenga that wreaked havoc on its own artificial turf. The visitors appeared paralyzed but came close to a reduction when Moses Mawa hit the crossbar.

Shortly after a worried Vålerenga supporter in the VIP stands shouted that “now we mustn’t think we are Barcelona”, the home team bombarded the visitors with huge chances.

Jones El-Abdellaoui was first stopped by goalkeeper Alexander Nilsson, and then by the metal when he was allowed to stand completely unmarked, but only hit the crossbar. Mees Rijks also had a great opportunity to break the deadlock before the break.

Both teams made two substitutions at the break. HamKam seemed a bit more stressed after the break, but goalkeeper Nilsson was close to losing his way by letting El-Abdellaoui catch the ball from him just outside the penalty area.

The Vålerenga fans on Østblokka sang that it was “quiet in the barn” and about “beer, violence and shamed farmers”, but instead got a punch in the face when Aaron Kiil Olsen created tension in the match by clawing the ball into his own net.

And in overtime they got another cold shower when Simenstad secured extra innings. From over 25 meters he thundered in a banana free kick that David Beckham would have been proud of in his glory days.

But in the end it was Vålerenga who went ahead.
